European nations are "too small" to be able to harm a country like Iran, said former Iranian President.

Ayatollah Hashme Rafsanjani, who is also a major religous cleric, said EU is too "petty" to hurt a "big country" like Iran. West has become "irrelevant".

Powerful Shia cleric mocked "ineffective" EU attempts at "pressuring" Iran to give up nuclear power.

Mr Rafsanjani said Western countries like Britain and France issue "scraps of paper" against Iran thinking they can change our resolve. Please use "better paper", he told the European Union.

You are too "tiny" to hurt Iran. "Petty" Western powers cannot punish a nation like the Islamic Iran, said Rafsanjani.
